I love when my family comes together. We have an amazing time whenever we are all in the same place. My family really meshes well and we enjoy each other’s company. We do not all live in the same place so we make it our priority to come together a few times a year outside of holidays (those are a given). My husband’s family is the same way. We have gotten to the point where both of our families are comfortable hanging out with each other so we do combined gatherings occasionally.Family

My family got together a few weeks ago for a “Fun Day”. We all drove from our respective places, paid $20 per person for admission to Callaway Gardens, and had a potluck style lunch where everyone pitched in. Family gatherings do not have to cost a lot of money as long as everyone is together and having a good time. This was a very inexpensive trip because we chose a location that was central to everyone so that we could all travel home at the end of the day. The day started with us working together putting up tents for shade, setting up tables, and starting the grill. While a couple of the men tended to the grill, we began playing games, taking pictures, and just enjoying each other’s company.

Next, we migrated to the beach and had a few drinks and laughs while the children played in the water. They had a lot of fun. Around 12:00 p.m., we had lunch at our tents, then spent more time at the beach. Around 5:00 p.m. we made our way to the volleyball net and played a mini tournament against a family that was already there. Both of our families had about 20 people so we rotated teams of 6. My team actually won the tournament! It was so much fun. After the games, we packed up our belongings and headed back home. Everyone made it to their destinations by 9:00 p.m. We had beach time, good food, and family. That was a recipe for a great day!

If you feel that it has been too long since you have gathered with your family members, I encourage you to do so as soon as possible. Make time for each other and love each other. Don’t forget to take time out of your busy schedule to play. The world needs more love and fun and less busyness. These days, we tend to be so busy that we don’t take the time to appreciate the small things. We wake up, go to work, come home and do it again the next day. We live by going through the motions instead of actually experiencing life. I want to remind everyone that we should make time for our families while things are good. Do not wait to come together until some tragic event happens. Enjoy your family members while they are alive because tomorrow is not promised.

Family Fun

Questions of the day: When was the last time that you gathered with your family for fun? What things do you enjoy doing with your family?
