Wealth building is a very controversial topic. Often times when you read or hear something that promises to help increase your wealth, it includes “get rich quick” schemes. As a Millennial, it is really hard to find legit advice without spending a ton of money on a financial advisor.

At this age, a lot of you, like me, have an overwhelming amount of student loan debt and many have no clue where to start. There is one thing that most of us have in common, and that is the fact that we would love to increase our wealth and be able to enjoy our money. I have put together a list of books that will not only help increase your wealth but also help you create a financial plan for yourself for years to come.

First up,  The Total Money Makeover. Dave Ramsey is probably one of the first people that comes up when you search ways to increase your wealth. Although a lot of people despise his personality, his plan works. This is the book that I read when I started my personal journey to financial freedom. Reading this book will teach you a completely different way to think about your money. You will learn how to create a personalized plan to get out of debt as well as save money for emergencies and retirement. Dave Ramsey’s methods are straightforward and right to the point. As long as you apply the things that you learn, you will increase your wealth in no time.

Debt-Free by 30

Many Millennials have taken on a ridiculous amount of debt by the age of 22. The majority of this debt is made up of student loans. The authors of this book have been in your situation and understand that even though you may have a degree and a comfortable job, you may not have all the tools to chip away at your mountain of debt. Topics highlighted in this book include health insurance, spending money, credit, financing a car, and which banks to choose for wealth building. This information is crucial when you are ready to increase your wealth.  

The Automatic Millionaire

It sounds crazy, but there is a good reason for the author’s way of thinking. They own two homes free and clear, put two children through college, and retired at the age of 55. They had more than one million dollars in savings upon retirement. This is very impressive and the book will walk you through each step that you can take right now to help increase your wealth.

Psych Yourself Rich

Surprisingly enough, you won’t find them on Rodeo Drive or even in Beverly Hills. Most people that have accumulated wealth live right next door. This book will teach you the seven rules that most millionaires live by as well as the things that you can work on to increase your own net worth. You will learn how to shift your mindset away from the things that you think millionaires should do to the things that they actually do to stay wealthy. Reading these books have opened my eyes and pushed me closer to being debt free and wealthy. Building wealth is all about doing what works for you.
