Are you tired of your job and looking for a way to replace your income? That’s how I felt this past summer. I hated going to work every morning, and I was ready to do just about anything to replace my income so that I could quit my job.

It wasn’t that I had a bad job or that I didn’t enjoy working. I just felt like my time was up in this position. I worked as a financial aid counselor for almost seven years, and it just wasn’t fulfilling to me anymore.

It had gotten so bad that I dreaded waking up in the morning, and I was very unproductive during the day. During my lunch breaks and every night after work, I applied for jobs and researched side hustles.

I didn’t want just any side hustle. I needed to find something that could replace my income while I found a new job.

My research pointed me to a lot of cool side hustles where real people have been able to replace their income. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to try them all because I did get hired for a new position in August, but I do want to share the resources that I found with you.

Whether you are looking to replace your income or making money while between jobs, these side hustles will make that possible.

Try out a few of these suggestions that interest you and stick with the ones that you enjoy the most.

1. Start a blog

If you enjoy writing and sharing your stories online, blogging will be a great side hustle for you. The only things that you need to get started is a host, a domain, and a good topic.

Bloggers make money in a few different ways, like sponsorships, ad revenue, affiliates, and selling products.

The amount of money that you can earn from a blog is up to you. The sky is the limit!

I know of a few bloggers that make anywhere between $200 and $50,000 per month. No, that is not a typo. Some bloggers earn $50,000 (or more) per month!

I started my blog back in 2016 after reading a post similar to this one. Blogging has been a great side hustle for me, and it gives me the freedom to write and create content that I enjoy while helping each of you.

If you are interested in starting a blog right now, grab the Genius Blogger Toolkit. This toolkit includes a ton of resources to help you at any stage of blogging.

2. Teaching online

Teaching online is a great way for passionate people to replace their income. Whether you’re a current teacher or former teacher, several places will allow you to teach online.

The benefit of teaching online is the ability to set your hours and teach classes whenever and wherever you like.

There are a few different ways to teach online classes. One way is to create a course. When creating your course, you can teach anything that you are an expert in. Create the course and market it to people that are interested in the topic.

After you have set the price that you would like to charge, use a platform like Teachable or Thinkific to deliver your course. Market the course on Pinterest, social media, and your blog if you have one.

Another way to make money teaching online is through VIPKID. VIPKID is a China-based service that pays between $14 and $22 per hour for English teachers.

The service requires teachers to have a Bachelor’s degree, but not a teaching certificate. Each teacher has to show their ability to teach children during an interview to be hired. Teachers set their hours.

Find more information about teaching with VIPKID here.

3. Freelancing

Freelancing can be a great way to replace your income. A freelancer is a person who works as an independent contractor.

Freelancers work on various projects for their clients and make as much or as little money as they would like because they set their rates. I know a few freelancers that have been working full time as independent contractors for years and are doing very well for themselves.

I gave freelancing a shot over the summer, and I enjoyed the work. My services included writing blog posts and other short pieces for my clients. My rates were $30 per hour, and my clients paid me up front. The money was nice, and I think this would be a great way to replace your income quickly.

To get started as a freelancer, determine which services you would like to offer and start marketing yourself to people that need those services.

The best way to get new clients is to start with the people that you know personally, and if they like your work, they will help promote your services to other people. Word of mouth travels fast.

4. Write an ebook

If you love writing, telling stories, or helping others, writing ebooks is the perfect side hustle to help you potentially replace your income. The technology that we have access to today has made it so easy to self-publish an ebook and sell it on Amazon or other platforms.

For those of you thinking about writing ebooks to replace your income, think about something that you do well that other people may not know how to do. Write an in-depth, step-by-step guide and sell at a price that is low enough for people to buy, but high enough for you to make a profit.

As soon as you finish the first book, you will be excited to start the next one. You will be able to replace your income in no time!

A few friends and I are currently working on a project that includes writing an ebook. We are all writing a portion of the book and will self-publish and release the book on our websites. I’m super excited about this side hustle.

5. Virtual Assistant

Do you have skills that can help people online or in your community? If so, you should try your hand at becoming a virtual assistant. Virtual assistants help businesses run more efficiently while working anywhere in the world.

Similar to freelancing, virtual assistants are independent contractors that complete a variety of tasks. Some virtual assistants may do bookkeeping for large companies, and others may schedule social media posts for bloggers.

To get started as a virtual assistant, determine what services you will offer. Try to offer something unique that makes you stand out from the crowd.

When you have that in mind, reach out to companies that may need your services. Don’t get discouraged if you hear the word no a lot in the beginning. You will find your perfect clients in due time.

6. Start a youtube channel

Do you have the personality to hold someone’s attention and love being in front of the camera? Look into starting a youtube channel. Starting a youtube channel is an unconventional way to replace your income, but it works!

Youtube has become very popular in the past few years, and it is easier to make money on the platform now than ever. Popular youtube niches are daily vlogs, gaming, personal finance, travel, cooking, planning, and lifestyle topics.

Find something that you love to do or teach, record videos about it, and promote the video. It may take a while to replace your income with this side hustle, but if you are consistent, it is certainly possible.

7. Tutoring

If you are good at any subject, try your hand at tutoring. I work on a college campus, and I see students every day that utilize tutoring services.

These tutors get paid anywhere between $10 and $50 an hour. Standardized test tutors have the potential to make even more than that!

Tutoring is a service that won’t go away anytime soon. Some students will always struggle with subjects like English and Math.

Figure out what subject you have expert level experience with and start marketing your services on social media and local schools. Take on as many clients as necessary to replace your income. You have the power to determine how much you earn.

8. Start a podcast

If you have stories to tell or things to teach but don’t like being in front of the camera or writing, starting a podcast is the perfect side hustle for you.

Podcasts have become increasingly popular in the past couple of years. People enjoy podcasts on their commute or while they are working out. The topics for podcasts range from educational to true crime and everything in between.

The startup costs are low because you only need a microphone and podcast software to get started. There are also a few different ways to make money with a podcast. They include sponsors, affiliates, products, and advertisements.

Podcasting is very similar to creating youtube videos or blogging. They take a while to get started but have enough earning potential to replace your income if you are consistent.

9. Sell things on Etsy

Etsy is an awesome website that allows people to sell their crafts and homemade goods. I love shopping on Etsy. I purchased a bracelet for my mother-in-law as a wedding gift, and it was beautiful.

If you are crafty and would enjoy selling the things that you make, Etsy is a great place to sell them. Although you won’t see a significant profit in the beginning, it is possible to replace your income by selling on Etsy.

A few popular niches on Etsy are planner stickers, wedding accessories, jewelry, and personalized items. There are a ton of other categories, so feel free to head over to Etsy to check it out. Don’t forget to read the seller policy for the rules as well.

The Bottom Line

The side hustles listed in this post can easily replace your income. Find something that you do well, and there is almost always a need to help people in these areas. Please keep in mind, though, that these are not quick solutions. It may take some time to replace your income completely, but it will be worth it when you reach your goal.

  1. These are all very valid ways to earn. People need to pay attention to the word “hustle” because you will need to put in work in order for them to work, but, at least you’ll be doing it for yourself. Thanks for sharing.
